William Hill Withdraws from China, Macau, Taiwan and HK

Over the past years there have been multiple instances in which unregulated online gambling has pushed companies out of certain countries and territories. Online casino companies try their best to deal with legal hurdles efficiently, but sometimes the local authorities make the countries hostile and end up pushing our industry away. This was the case for the well known casino William Hill in China this week.

William Hill is a signature online gambling company absed in Gibraltar which decided to pull their online gambling services out of China because they have had enough with the legal plots and constant changing of requirements to be met in order to cater to the Chinese audience. This move will also have negative effects in other jurisdictions like Macau, Hong Kong and Taiwan, and William Hill officials report that the situation at the time is beyond of their control.

The news broke on August 19th, when online casino affiliates received an email from William Hill stating that all accounts for mainland China, Macau, Hong Kong, and Taiwan would be suspended as of August 19th. The suspension means that customers located within those jurisdictions would no longer be able to access their accounts to play on William Hill's online sportsbooks and casino. The good news is that everyone will be able to finalize the processing of their remaining balances.

The email read as follows:"Bettors will be able to check their accounts and withdraw any outstanding balance at any time, unless we notify you otherwise in the future, by logging in, selecting "My Account" and then "Withdraw" to request a return of their outstanding balance." If you have an account at William Hill and are currently based in those locations, please proceed to finalize all financial transactions as soon as possible to avoid future problems.

Even though this is disappointing to hear, there is also a lot to hear regarding William Hill and its plans to enter the US market. They already have eyes set on Nevada and Delaware, two states that recently opened their doors to the online casino industry, and it is expected that William Hill will go big on those territories. William Hill is one of the largest bookmakers in the UK, and it is partnering with Bally Technologies in the UK to deliver online gambling services to American players. The withdrawal from the Asian markets will enable the company to fully focus on their new venture on the other side of the world
