Online Craps Bets That You Should Avoid

Craps is a complicated game for newbie online casino players. There are a large number of bets to choose from. And the bets offer different house edges. House edge of a bet is the amount that the online casino can expect to win from it in the long run. For quite a few bets the house edge exceeds 10%, which makes them sucker bets. The added problem is that the sucker bets are simply structured and have been given exotic names. The house edges of craps bets is never declared up front by online casinos. It depends on the payout of the bet, which has to be declared, and the probability of winning, which is not declared but can be computed by online casino players with a mathematical bent of mind. But the simpler way is just to know which are the sucker bets and avoid them. Some of the sucker bets are discussed below.

Craps is the bet that has given the online casino game its name. Unfortunately it has become a popular bet for this reason alone. The bet wins if 2, 3 or 12 are rolled and loses on all other outcomes. There are four outcomes on which this bet wins because 3 can be rolled in two ways. There are 32 ways to lose bet. Based on this, the fair mathematical odds for this bet should be 8 to 1 but online casinos pay only 7 to 1. This leads to a house edge of over 11%.

Another popular online craps bet is Any 7. This bet wins if a 7 is rolled and loses otherwise. 7 is the most frequently rolled total and therefore newbie players feel that this bet will be favourable. There are six ways to win this bet and thirty ways to lose. The fair mathematical odds for this bet should be 5 to 1 but online casinos pay only 4 to 1. This leads to a house edge of over 16%.

The Horn Bet has an attractive name. In this bet an identical chip is placed on 2, 3, 11 and 12. Each bet is treated as an independent wager. At best only one chip can win but all four chips can lose. And to make matters worse these four numbers have to lowest probability of winning. This bet has a house edge of over 11%.

The bets with the lowest house edges in online craps are the Pass Line and Come bets. The problem with these bets is that they are decided in s slightly complex way over multiple rolls. That is why newbie online craps players avoid them.
